abstract

This workshop presents a simple model for producing a business plan for an English language-teaching program. We establish some basic terminology and examine the benefits and drawbacks of the model, which can be adapted for use in different circumstances. Consideration of the annual business planning cycle leads to the construction of a financial plan, based around an analysis of the variable costs associated with each course. Finally, the attribution of fixed costs is considered in order to arrive at a definitive course costing.

This practical workshop is intended for participants who are already involved with or interested in the business planning and financial management of a language-teaching program. It is intended to be participative and includes activities for which a calculator may be helpful.
